ABOUT ME

Hiya it's Maya

Welcome to my blog! I am a recent MLIS grad from the School of Information at San José State University. I currently am the Library Technician for a Middle School in San Diego. This blog was created for my final class in my program, Materials for Young Adults. The purpose of this blog is to create a collection recent print and non-print materials that young adults may find interest in or valuable. The content I have selected is for teens. Each blog post will be a review from my own lens as well as one for teens. In each post you can expect bibliographic information about the material, notable awards, interest level, plot summary, author background, my critical evaluation, speed round trailer or book talk, creative use for library programming, potential challenges and defense for the work, and extra content to check out. I hope you enjoy!

Before completing my MLIS, I got my B.A. in Classics with an emphasis in Classical Language and in Religious Studies at San Diego State University. I was a springboard and platform diving coach working with athletes from age 6-30 however the majority were in middle and high school. My kids taught me so much about everything, they have inspired me, and I think about them everyday. While diving and library  science are incredibly different, a lot of what I have learned about working with and serving young adults, I learned from my time as a coach! I no longer coach diving and am now focusing full time on pursuing my career in teen librarianship.

I live in San Diego, California with my family and our two cats. Some of my hobbies include sewing, working out, cooking, and of course reading. My favorite genres to read are fantasy and historical fiction, however this class and program has expanded my love for all sorts of books. I am a tea aficionado and love exploring tea rooms around my city. Growing up in San Diego is amazing but hopefully I will be able to travel the world a little more outside of my beautiful hometown. Until then I am content with reading my book in the park and rooting for the San Diego Padres!
